Too Quiet - Chords, Lyrics and Origins

Origins

This version of 'Too Quiet' is performed by Webster-Fergusson, a duo that I, Peter Webster, am one half of.  'Too Quiet' is an original song of mine.  It took a long time to write, but was worth the effort. The song focuses on a relationship that is almost - but not quite - over.   The question is whether the protagonists can salvage something worthwhile from what could otherwise turn out to be a wreck.  My idea was to tell their story through a third party (a little like the Beatles' 'She Loves You').

Footprints - Chords, Lyrics and Origins

Origins

Footprints is a song I co-wrote with Peter Birkett (Peter and I also wrote 'Remnants' together, which you can find elsewhere on this site).  Peter B. wrote the lyrics, and I contributed the music.  You can find out more about my original recordings at my web site,  www.peterwebster.org.uk.

Felicity - Chords, Lyrics and Origins

Origins

Felicity is a song that I wrote.  It had its genesis way back in 1990.  At the time I was living in a shared house by the railway station (that's a Railroad station for you Americans), in a little room that cost me £40 (at the time, maybe $70) a week to rent.  Five of us lived in the house and lots of friends were always visiting.  The lyrics are about a friend of a friend from down the road who one day stopped in for a cup of tea (very British, I know). Sadly, I can't remember her name, or even what she looked like, and I think it's the only time I ever saw her.  The only thing I do remember is that she wasn't called Felicity.  Back in 2008 (or so), I dusted the song off,  found a new tune and chord structure for the verses, added a different bridge and came up with a new instrumental middle eight, and the result is what you hear below.  You can find out more about my original recordings at my web site: www.peterwebster.org.uk.

Don't Think of Me - Chords, Lyrics and Origins

Origins

The recording of 'Don't Think of Me' on this page is by Webster-Fergusson, a duo that I am half of (the Webster half to be precise).  The song itself is an original one of mine that looks back somewhat whimsically at the past.

Without You - Chords, Lyrics and Origins

Origins

Here's a jaunty, self-penned uptempo contemporary folk song about the pain, but also the freedom of breaking away from a relationship. The percussion part is played on a cajón (see this wikipedia article if you don't know what a cajón is), and the first thing you hear is a mandolin, which is sometimes been mistaken for a ukulele.  As shown below, the chord pattern changes subtly in the second part of the song (after the stop).  You can find out more about my original recordings at my web site: www.peterwebster.org.uk.
